Antique Quilt Block Challenge from Humble Quilts

Here is a quilt I was able to finish last week at the quilt retreat!

The center block was an antique for the challenge I hosted.

When I was teaching in Idaho, Marsha B and I bartered! She made 2 very similar quilt tops and I ended up with this one! I really love it!  Read about it and see her similar quilt HERE

I had a lovely time away last week but boy we had some winter weather!

Thankfully we were cozy inside and busy sewing!

We have had a lot of treacherous freezing rain on top of that ...

Antique Block Challenge Revisited from Humble Quilts

The center block is an antique. Marsha in Idaho put 2 tops together with similar antique blocks.
I  adore everything about it! I LOVE that blue rope looking fabric in the upper right section of the block.

I made a trade- fabric for this top. Gotta love bartering!

Here is Marsha with her completed top!

If you have completed your antique block challenge and haven't shown me, I'd love to see yours!

I can't wait to get my top basted and start quilting on it!

Cigar Ribbons and Antique Block Challenge from Humble Quilts

The quilt below was in the Latimer Textile booth. I must not have been super impressed with the entire quilt because I don't have a photo!

Only close-ups of these cool ribbons! From what I've read 1875-1911 was the cigar ribbon popularity years.
I find them so fascinating!

How are you all coming on your block challenge?
Marian shared the start of hers on the facebook group and someone wanted to see my blocks.
They are on my design wall waiting for inspiration!

How about yours?
If you have no clue what I'm referring to check this ...

Antique Block Challenge 2021? Are You In? from Humble Quilts

If you've been around for very long you know I did a challenge using an antique quilt block. Started in 2019 with 1 year to complete it.

You could use it whole, take out pieces, cut it, slice it, whatever! I was wondering if anyone would be interested in another challenge like that?

Here is my little quilt from last year.
You can see others HERE. There was so much creativity!

While I've been on the hunt for some missing string blocks I came across these antique blocks in my sewing room. I would offer you a block ...

Multifarious Monday from Humble Quilts

I'm going to start this post with one more challenge quilt.

Here is Sandra's description. (the bow tie top center was the block she got in Houston from me)

I just finished the top I designed after you let me choose an antique block when I was at the Houston quilt show with my mom last year. I just have to figure out the border now.

For the fabrics, I decided to go with the inspirations I got at the show. I picked up some wonderful vintage fabrics from a stall at the show, and I just loved ...

2020 Antique Block Challenge Part 2 from Humble Quilts

Connie R was part of our Houston challenge but cannot find her block. I know she is the queen of quilt re-do and renews and asked her to send me a few of her do-overs.
These huge Dresden blocks were appliqued onto black double  knit when she found it. It looks like classic 30's to me now!

The blocks were all "volcanoed" when she found them. She took them completely apart, recut them and set them with gingham sashing. The fan quilting is a great touch.

This was a completed top that was ragged on the edges, torn seams ...

2020 Antique Block Challenge from Humble Quilts

Here are the quilts from the challenge I put out last year in Houston and then recently to any reader of Humble Quilts. We started with a vintage block and created from there.
I'm calling mine Licorice Allsorts, since the pink and black reminded me of that candy.  I shared a sneak peak of the zig zag border. I use this border treatment a lot. It looks more complicated than it is.
Next up in Lizzy's  Here's the link to her blog post sharing more about her challenge quilt- HERE

Here's her pretty split backing.

Fun on A Friday! from Humble Quilts

Happy Friday Friends!

Here's a sneak peak at a vintage quilt purchase! Oh my goodness, it is darling as can be! Who doesn't love polka dots??!! More to come.

Here's my instagram from the last several weeks.

A couple things:

I'm in charge of the Angel Tree program this year and we had a whopping 62 kids. In ONE Sunday, with less people attending (more watching from home these days) and a few texts on Monday all names were spoken for. With our "freeze" the next 2 weeks our church will not be meeting, so I ...
